Waiting, anticipating,
The spark of innovation
Ignites once more.
I'm still here, still holdin' on
To dreams of better days,
Spurred on by the promise
Once made to me.
I'm not going to fall,
In fact, I begin my rise,
I soar higher than ever before.
It was worth the heartache,
Tantrums and tears.
I never lost myself
In momentary afflictions
Sweeping over my psyche
At high speed.
There isn't a lot more to say,
Except I feel revived,
My time will come.
It edges closer each second.
I'm not going to break up
Or shake up feelings of unrest
By being bitter.
I'm here because it is destiny,
As I am now next in line.

l like your comment on this piece in which you describe how the poem came about. Perhaps you could make that moment/scene a poem? I get a feeling it might be a very good poem if you do! -Pete

Thanks for that Pete. I'm looking into expanding it a bit more in the near future so I'll definitely take your advice on board. Thank you!

Cheers for the feedback! It was quite a poignant moment when this happened back in 1994 and thus the inspiration for this piece came about 12 years later. It's really paying homage to her and the influence she had on me as a writer in the very early days of my career. The piece needs a bit more work on it but I'm hoping to sort that out soon.
Thanks again!

We all reach a point in our lives when we're on the verge of something great happening to us. I wrote this on 8 November 2006 and had just realised my teenage dream of becoming a writer and was preparing for my first ever launch which was about a month later.
The line "spurred on by the promise once made to me" was based on a real-life experience. I had a vision, almost like a premonition of sorts, back in January 1994 of a dear friend of mine who'd sadly passed away in April 1993 after a long illness and I remember her standing in the doorway as I looked out of the room in which I was sitting and she smiled me and said, "I know things aren't that great for you at the moment, Nadeem, but I promise you, everything's going to get better from now on". She smiled sweetly and her image disappeared. I've always remembered that moment and it drove me to do all the things I'm doing now and become the person I always wanted to be. This friend was a big influence on me in the early days of my writing career and her passion and enthusiasm helped get me here so I guess in a way it's a tribute to her as well.
