I saw your face just the other day
Your eyes pure, bound to show me the way
Although you're not around, that don't mean I don't care
I cherish every moment, our bond precious and rare
(Chorus) Even though you're gone, I can still see you
Even though you're gone, I can still hear you
As much as others try, they could never be you
Someday I'll move on, even though you're gone
Before we met, I was livin' a lie
Wanted the perfect life but was too afraid to try
I found the key, that key was you
Now I no longer have anything to prove
(Chorus)
(Instrumental)
Didn't ever think we'd be torn apart
Could break down but I dunno where to start
You gave me a reason to keep on trying
You touched my life, there's no denying
(Chorus)
Don't ever think that I don't love you
I may be lost, but one day I'll find you
I'll never forget the bond we once had
Even though you're gone, I'll never be sad
(Chorus to end)

Even Though You're Gone
I wrote this song on 13 July 2008, 18 months to the day after Dike's death. Some of you may find this a little breezy in nature, but that was precisely my intention as I was determined to dedicate a song to him that wasn't sad because he always struck me as a very positive, upbeat kinda guy and he was always like that with me, in many ways he was very much like the older brother I never had. Those of you who were at last Wednesday's Identity workshop will remember me singing this and I just wanted to say thanks very much for your really great feedback! I've only sang it in public twice up to now, both times in a workshop setting, but I would love to do it on stage for real - that really would be something. Those of you who haven't heard it yet, hopefully I'll be sharing it with you very soon.
Lastly, Pete - when you said you expected the lyrics to be more poetic in nature, I can explain why - I didn't get the chance to do so last week. The reason is simply that I was looking to make an emotional connection with the song, not merely a creative one.
